Recruiting Mentors for Mentorship Program

Objective:
In collaboration with the Sr. Programs Manager at Latinas in Tech, we initiated a strategic campaign at the beginning of 2023 to address a critical need: recruiting more mentors to match the growing number of enrolled mentees. Faced with a shortage of mentors, we utilized a multi-faceted approach, combining organic social media content, targeted email campaigns, and funds from an advertising grant. We also leveraged community partnerships to source mentors, further expanding our reach and network. We crafted data-driven messages that highlighted the specific skills and industries where mentor demand was highest. By creating compelling content that showcased the value of mentorship and the impact mentors have, we successfully attracted professionals eager to share their expertise. Our targeted messaging not only appealed to potential mentors’ wanted to give back but also ensured we matched mentors with mentees seeking guidance in their respective fields. This holistic approach allowed us to effectively expand our mentor pool and support the professional development of our members.

Insights:
“Attracted 823 mentees and 769 mentors, achieving 980 matches for the inaugural full-year mentorship program in 2023.”
We were able to bridge the gap between the number of mentees and mentors, some mentors graciously took on more than one mentee, ensuring that all mentees had access to valuable guidance and support.
Additionally, our focus on recruiting mentors not only fulfilled the immediate need but also had a broader impact. The campaign raised awareness among community members about the value of mentorship and the opportunities available through Latinas in Tech. As a result, we saw an increase in program enrollment, with new members joining specifically to benefit from the mentorship opportunities. This dual outcome underscored the campaign’s effectiveness in both addressing the mentor-mentee ratio and enhancing overall community engagement.
